Lawyer and Texas Congressman Charlton Thompson (1809-1838), was born in South Carolina to Samuel Thompson and Precious Wofford and moved to Texas in 1826 with his family. After attending the Convention of 1833 as a delegate from Matagorda, Thompson moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana, to practice law in 1834.
